Teacher Preparation and Behavior Management

December 12, 2013

A report released this December by The National Council on Teacher Quality looks at the impact teacher preparation programs are having training teachers in effective behavior management strategies and techniques. The report titled, Training our Future Teachers: Classroom Management, researched 122 teacher credential programs to identify behavior management strategies that meet rigorous standards. The study then examines what programs are teaching as well as how they are training teachers in the use of these evidence-based strategies. They accomplished this by reviewing the programs lecture schedules, teacher candidate assignments, practice opportunities, instruments used to observe and provide feedback on teaching episodes and textbooks.
