Special Issue: Journal of Evidence-based Practices in Education – Volume 9, Number 2 (2009)

This special issue of the journal is dedicated to the proceedings of The Wing Institute 2007 Summit on Response to Intervention, RtI. The theme of the Summit was: Response to Intervention (RtI): An Evidence-Based Education Review.

As RtI gains momentum and is adopted across the nation, it is important to examine the instructional framework that is core to the RtI process. The Summit provided an overview on the latest research and developments in RtI, examined RtI in the context of the Evidence-Based Education Roadmap, identified critical variables for the successful implementation of RtI, and generated action plans with participant’s regarding their use of RtI in “real-life” settings.

The special issue focus is on the following critical features of the RtI process:

Response to Intervention: What it Is and What it is Not – Ronnie Detrich
Identifying Research-based Practices for RtI: Scientifically Based Reading – Janet Twyman, Ph.D, Headsprout
Evaluating Student Response to Instruction Using a 3 Tier RtI
Progress Monitoring System – John Hintze, Ph.D, University of Massachusetts-Amherst
Developing and Implementing a Quality RtI Process – Ed Daly III, , Ph.D, University of Nebraska/Lincoln
