Reauthorization of No Child Left Behind

March 22, 2010

On March 13, 2010, the Obama administration released its blueprint for revising the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The revision asks states to adopt college and career standards and reward schools for significant improvement in student performance. The blueprint proposes standardizing educational requirements for the entire nation.

The proposal provides incentives for states to adopt academic standards that prepare students both for success in college as well as prepare students for the workplace. The blueprint offers a framework of accountability systems that measure student growth toward meeting the goal that all children graduate and succeed in college.
