Comparing State Proficiency Standards to NAEP

August 7, 2015

How do state academic standards measure up to the America’s National Assessment of Education Standards? A July 9th report released by the Institute of Educational Services compares how states are doing establishing comparable standards for assessing student achievement. This analysis is the fifth in the series, summarizing the results of mapping state proficiency standards onto the NAEP scales by using state public school data for the 2012–13 school year and the 2013 NAEP assessments in reading and mathematics for grades 4 and 8. The data reveals slow but steady progress over the past 15 years in addressing the notable disparities found across the nation.
