Us Department Of Education Releases School Discipline Guidelines

February 5, 2014

On January 8, 2014, The U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) released a school discipline package to assist educators in developing a course of action to deal with the increasing need to successfully handle discipline and safety issues in schools. The report includes recommendations for policies and practices designed to improve school climate and that are in compliance with federal law. On February 27, 2014, the Supportive School Discipline Webinar Series is offering a free overview of the guidelines, an in depth examination of school discipline policies and practices; truancy and absenteeism; restorative justice principles; the promise of trauma-informed practices; and the importance of youth, family, and community engagement.
