Since 2008, there has been a decrease in enrollment in teacher preparation programs especially in large states like California, Texas, and New York resulting in anticipated teacher shortages. The shortages are most likely to be felt in math, science, and special education. There are a number of possible reasons for the decline, foremost among them the recession of 2008 and the large-scale efforts to change teacher accountability and tenure rules.<\/p>\n
