Science as Evidence in Public Policy

October 31, 2012

Using Science as Evidence in Public Policy is a report published by the National Academies Press. Although written for researchers, the papers is important for anyone involved in making public policy. The paper identifies reasons why scientific evidence should be used in policy decision-making and considers why the substantial body of knowledge science has amassed has not played a greater role in making public policy. It encourages researchers to re-examine how they present scientific evidence so that the data can more effectively influence the process. The report notes the barriers that have impeded science in making effective policy and builds a framework to overcome these obstacles.
