Gap Analysis: Home Factors

The purpose of the “gap analysis” is to identify:
- critical questions that need to be answered to provide effective, evidence-based education (what we need to know)
- existing information that answers these questions (what we do know)
- “gaps” in the knowledge base (what we don’t know)
The Home Factors GAP analysis is meant to be an evolving document, as more questions and answers are identified. It starts with four basic, yet critical, questions:
What behaviors in the home support student outcomes?
How are these behaviors evaluated?
How are these behaviors supported?
How are these behaviors sustained?
Data regarding these questions is organized into factors:
Supporting Characteristics
homework
verbal environment
parent involvement
extra-curricular activities
Detracting Characteristics
TV
Video gamnes
violence
Demographics
Language
SES
Number of parents
stability
